Loomwave — Privacy Policy

Loomwave is a companion app for the Loomwave LoRa mesh radio network. It connects to a nearby Loomwave radio node over Bluetooth (or local Wi-Fi) and lets you send and receive text messages across the mesh, see the status of nearby nodes, and — if you choose — share your node's location on the mesh map.

What the app accesses, and why

• Bluetooth / device connection. Used solely to connect to your Loomwave radio node. The app does not scan for or track other Bluetooth devices; the scan permission is declared neverForLocation.
• Location (GPS). Your radio node may report its own GPS position to the app so you can see where it is ("you are here"). Your position is only shared with other users on your mesh if you turn on the "Share my location" toggle, which is off by default. Node positions may also be visible to the operator of the mesh infrastructure you connect through, on their access-controlled map. Location is not collected for advertising and is not sold.
• Messages. Text you send is delivered across the LoRa mesh to the recipient node. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted between the two nodes. A message sent to a channel you created — one whose key you chose and shared yourself — is encrypted with that channel's key, which the mesh infrastructure never holds; coordinators forward those messages without being able to read them. The built-in #Public channel is a deliberate exception: its key is compiled into every node's firmware, so treat anything you send on #Public as readable by anyone in radio range. Message history is stored locally on your phone; the app does not upload your messages to Loomwave servers.
• Notifications / Android Auto. Used to alert you to incoming messages, including read-aloud and voice-reply while driving.

What the app does NOT do

• No advertising or analytics SDKs.
• No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties.
• No account, sign-in, or cloud message storage — the app talks to your radio node and your phone's local storage.

This website

loomwave.org is served through Cloudflare and uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view measurement that sets no cookies and does not track visitors across sites, together with Cloudflare's network error reporting; that is site hosting and is separate from the Loomwave app, which contains no analytics SDK.

Data retention

Message history and the learned node list live in the app's local storage on your device. You can clear the node list from the app ("Clear node list"), and uninstalling the app removes local data. If you share your location on the mesh, that position propagates to nodes/operators only while you have sharing enabled and only reflects your node's recent fixes.

Children

Loomwave is not directed at children under 13.
